  1. Hi Hasin.

Skype is known for his great Firewall penetrating abillity and much more. If Skype is not able to find an open Port it will try to use port 80. Cause…

In 99% of Company Infrastruktures and Homeoffices Port:80 is open for Browsers on the Router, Firewall and so on. And that is the easyiest way to go out for Skype and it is unintresting what applikation it blocks.

Make Apache as service and you dont have these problems. The Service would be launch before an Applikation like Skype can launch in Autostart πŸ˜‰

  2. Skype uses port 80 and port 443 to pass throught the gateways and firewalls. But you configure skype not to use those ports. Its very simple, just go to the preferences->connection. You will find a Check box which asks whether skype should use these ports or not.

No need to install apache as a service.

    1. Perfect solution : Skype -> Tools -> Options ->Advanced -> Connection ->uncheck the box that says “use port 80 and 443 …”, click Ok, then restrt your skype and you are done . πŸ™‚

  3. I can ask you the same question, why the hell you want to start Skype when your PC starts? I think most of the ppl should keep the startup as free as possible.

  4. “god bless you πŸ˜‰
why apache blocks the 80 port πŸ˜‰ is it mentioned over holy books πŸ˜€ (surely it does :D)”

    hahahahhaa well said Hasin! lol

  9. I think I love you. I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to figure out the problem and you’ve solved it. Thank you SO much!!!!!

  10. My company has blocked the installation of the Skype program – i downloaded it (in English and then Korean to try to get around it!) but when I double click on the .exe file is says “this is not a valid win32 file”. Anyway around that?! It allowed me yo install trillian, so there must just be some speficially blocked content (…changing the name didn’t work… i was desperate…!)

  11. I almost forgot about this post. Well, there is an option on Skype to prevent it from using port 80.

To turn that off, go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Connection. You can see “Use port 80 and 443 as…” Just uncheck that check box. That’s it! πŸ™‚
