I was suffering for a ridiculous problem for last couple of days. Something strange (UFO??) was listening at port 8 of my local pc and I couldn’t run apache on port 80. So I was searching for the solution and suddenly found that Matt from wordpress suffered from exactly the same problem. its ridiculous and very annoying!
So I followed the steps Matt suggested in his blog post - I applied the following command at shell
netstat -a -o -n
Then I found that a process with PID 2160 is listening at port 80. I give the following command
tasklist /FI “PID eq 2160″
then I found that the criminal is skype!!! God knows why the hell skype requires to listen at port 80. Then I quit from skype and everything runs fine. After running apache, I restarted skype and it runs smoothly!

Hi Hasin.
Skype is known for his great Firewall penetrating abillity and much more. If Skype is not able to find an open Port it will try to use port 80. Cause…
In 99% of Company Infrastruktures and Homeoffices Port:80 is open for Browsers on the Router, Firewall and so on. And that is the easyiest way to go out for Skype and it is unintresting what applikation it blocks.
Make Apache as service and you dont have these problems. The Service would be launch before an Applikation like Skype can launch in Autostart

Skype uses port 80 and port 443 to pass throught the gateways and firewalls. But you configure skype not to use those ports. Its very simple, just go to the preferences->connection. You will find a Check box which asks whether skype should use these ports or not.
No need to install apache as a service.

I can ask you the same question, why the hell you want to start Skype when your PC starts? I think most of the ppl should keep the startup as free as possible.

Omi Azad, who wouldn’t you want skype to start when windows starts? It saves me from opening it every time I restart.

Can't Live w/o Skype // September 26, 2008 at 10:21 am
My company has blocked the installation of the Skype program - i downloaded it (in English and then Korean to try to get around it!) but when I double click on the .exe file is says “this is not a valid win32 file”. Anyway around that?! It allowed me yo install trillian, so there must just be some speficially blocked content (…changing the name didn’t work… i was desperate…!)
